Minimum external transmittance at 185 nanometers is 80% for UV grades (1100 and 1000) when measured through a 0.394" (10mm) polished, uncoated sample.

Specifications for larger blanks will be provided upon request. Centerless grinding to finished diameters and I.D. slicing to close tolerances are available in serveral sizes.

Index Homogeneity:
    a) Schlieren quality may be specified by changing the last digit of the selected grade to correspond with the coefficient of the required homogeneity level. For example, grade 4100 to have an index homogeneity not to exceed 3 x 10-6 would be ordered as 4103. Index homogeneity is not specified when the last digit of the grade remains a zero.
    b) Blanks 12" in diameter (or diagonal) and under will be analyzed over the full aperture. Larger blanks will be analyzed using multiple overlaping apertures.
    c) The minimum thickness for index homogeneity verification is 0.750" (19mm). Measurements are made through the optical face.
    d) If requested at time of order acceptance, and for a nominal fee, interferograms will be supplied for Schlieren grades.

Inclusions, bubbles, and seeds smaller than 0.004" (0.10mm) in diameter are disregarded in this specification. Multiply average or maximum number of inclusions per cubic inch by 6.102 to obtain amount per 100cc of glass.

One direction only (through major face or thickness) per MIL-G-174A, Amendment2 25 June 1974.

Optical Retardation (birefringence) resulting from residual stress, as measured photoelastically, expressed in nanometers per centimeter.
