Staff Scientist- Thin Film Processing
The Advanced Thin Film Technologies (ATFT) Group is seeking a Material Scientist familiar with process development and characterization of opto-electronic thin film materials. The mission for this position is to conceive and develop innovative thin film technologies toward solving cutting-edge problems related to microelectronics, energy conversion, quantum sciences, photodetection and national defense.
You will be responsible for thin-film process development using the deposition techniques of Atomic Layer Deposition (ALD, Preferred), Chemical Vapor Deposition (CVD), Sputtering, E-beam, and Thermal Evaporation. The candidate is expected to have a strong handle on thin film analysis using techniques such as XPS, TEM, FTIR, Ellipsometry etc. The process development will be guided by adequate design-of-experiment to meet the technical objectives of the programs. The position requires the ability to work on multiple programs in parallel and to work with other members/collaborators with different technical expertise (ex. ceramics, optics, semiconductor). The position also comes with the responsibility of producing strong research proposals, technical reports, and conference presentations. The candidate will have a traveling responsibility of up to 10%.
- A Masters or a PhD in Material Science, Physics, Chemistry, or related Engineering discipline
- Experience* in thin film processes by ALD (preferred), CVD, Sputtering, E-beam
- Experience* in materials characterization by XPS, FTIR, RBS, XRD
- Experience* in electronic characterization by CV and IV probes
- Experience* in vacuum science and vacuum hardware design
- Must have in-depth knowledge of materials optical and electronic properties
- Knowledge of semiconductor devices fabrication and related Physics is preferred
- Must possess strong writing and presentation skills
- Demonstrated ability to work collaboratively on a diverse team
