Magneto-Resistive Eddy Current
The United States currently has more than 2 million miles of gas pipeline, and nearly 50% of it is more than 50 years old. RMD’s MREC (Magneto-Resistive Eddy Current) inspection technology detects defects in pipes with accuracy and repeatability and offers many advantages over MFL (Magnetic Flux Leakage) techniques:
• Heavy magnets are not required
• Smaller, lighter-weight, less power hungry NDI system
• Defects can be detected with high signal to noise ratio near welds
• Probe response is proportional to defect size
Current estimates of pipeline inspection using MFL technology are US $1M per 5 miles. Utilizing RMD’s MREC system, this cost could be reduced to less than $250,000.
